Deck joint tape for wood and WPC decking
With a deck joint tape, the gaps between decking boards can be visually closed. At Gunreben, you will find black joint sealing tapes for joint widths of approx. 4 mm and approx. 7 mm. The appropriate version depends on the existing gap spacing of your decking boards.
The products are also searched for under terms such as joint sealing tape for decks, WPC joint tape, or WPC gasket. However, the decisive factors for selection are the joint width that matches the deck system and compliance with the product-specific installation instructions.
Which deck joint tape is right for my deck?
For decks with a gap spacing of about 4 mm, the corresponding 4 mm version is available. For a gap spacing of about 7 mm, the 7 mm version is used. Both variants are black and are offered as a 50 m roll.
Before selection, the existing joint width should be checked at several points on the deck. Especially with wooden decks, possible dimensional changes of the boards as well as the specifications of the respective deck system must be taken into account.
Installation of the joint sealing tape
The joint sealing tape is inserted into the joint after the decking boards have been laid. The tape should not be stretched or pulled lengthwise when being pressed in, as it may subsequently contract.
For every linear meter of joint length, about 10 mm of additional length should be planned for and initially left to overhang at both ends. Due to temperature-related changes in length, the overhanging ends should only be trimmed later in accordance with the product-specific installation instructions.
Consider substructure and ventilation
For the use of the joint sealing tape, the spacing of the substructure timbers should be a maximum of 400 mm. With larger spacings, increased deflection of the decking boards can cause the tape to be pushed out of the joint.
In addition, sufficient ventilation underneath the deck floor is required. For these joint sealing tapes, an under-ventilation of at least 8 cm is intended.
