Our History

Wood has been a part of Gunreben from the very beginning. What started in Bamberg has evolved over generations: from the first sawmill to new production facilities, modern drying kilns, warehouses, and finishing plants. This timeline shows the key milestones of a family business that has been processing, rethinking, and bringing wood to life for more than 130 years.

Company History

Moments that shaped Gunreben

Since 1895, Gunreben has evolved with every generation: through craftsmanship in wood, entrepreneurial courage, and investments in production, quality, and the customer experience.

Founding in Bamberg

In 1895, Georg Gunreben laid the foundation for today's family business. What began as an operation with a clear focus on wood as a material has continued to evolve over generations and still stands for quality, expertise, and reliability today.

First sawmill

With the first sawmill, the foundation for our own production is also laid – and with it, greater control over quality, processing, and value creation.

Strullendorf location

In 1938, Gunreben acquired a new site in Strullendorf and began constructing its own production facilities there. This step created space for further growth and laid the foundation for the company's current production site.

Post-war restart

After the building was destroyed during the Second World War, Gunreben began reconstruction in 1948 and resumed production. Energy, cohesion, and entrepreneurial courage laid the foundation for the boom of the following decades.

Structural change

Restructuring and new buildings are professionalizing the timber trade and gearing the company towards growth. With clearer processes, expanded space, and a more modern site structure, Gunreben is creating the foundation to improve the long-term performance of its product range, consulting, and supply capabilities.

Realignment after reunification

The new market situation following reunification became an opportunity for Gunreben. The wholesale division strategically returned to Strullendorf, thereby strengthening the company's core location. Consolidating operations at this site created new possibilities for trade, production, and distribution, shaping the future development of Gunreben.

100 years and investment

To mark its anniversary, Gunreben is investing in its energy supply. With the construction of its own biomass power plant, the raw material wood is now being used almost entirely. What remains at the end is ash.
