With a durability class of 3 according to DIN EN 350-2, Garapa offers very good resistance to weathering and can be used outdoors without additional chemical treatment (excluding direct ground contact). Due to its high density of approx. 790–1,010 kg/m³ and a Brinell hardness of up to 79 N/mm², Garapa is one of the most robust woods worldwide – perfect for high-traffic terrace areas.

The wood exhibits moderate swelling and shrinking behavior, which occurs slowly. When installing, however, a gap width of at least 4 mm should be maintained to compensate for natural movement. For a clean and secure installation, pre-drilling is mandatory. Due to the hardness and the contained silica deposits, carbide-tipped tools should be used.

Only grade A4 stainless steel screws are suitable for fastening to avoid grey-blue discoloration caused by reactions with ferrous metals. Controlled water drainage provides additional protection against surface contamination from water-soluble ingredients.
